Trip to Vulcano Island departure 9:30, return 17:00

Our day begins as we leave the port of Lipari and head towards the island of Vulcano.

Vulcano is the third largest island of the archipelago.

On the right, we begin to see the coasts of Vulcanello, the youngest volcano on the island, home to the famous “Valley of Monsters,” where nature has shaped fantastic lava formations—easily reachable on foot once ashore.

We sail past the enchanting Black Sand Bay, famous for its long beach of fine, dark sand. Behind it rises the majestic “Gran Crater of La Fossa.”

This is the island’s active, though currently dormant, volcano. Its summit can be reached with a one-hour walk starting from the port.

From the top, the landscape changes completely—it feels like being on another planet, with steaming rocks and the strong smell of sulfur. The view is breathtaking.

Continuing our navigation, we arrive at a natural amphitheater of rare beauty, where you’ll find the Cave of the Horse—famous for its light effects—and Venus’ Pool, where, according to legend, the goddess herself bathed.

Our journey takes us down to Gelso, the southernmost part of the island—a nearly uninhabited village with a lighthouse and deep black sandy beaches typical of this area.

Finally, we sail along steep cliffs where seagulls nest and dive for food, until we reach a small inlet. Here, on a rock, stands a statue of a beautiful mermaid, placed to protect those navigating these waters.

We will dock at the port in late morning, greeted by the pungent smell of sulfur in the air. This is the liveliest part of the island, full of small shops, bars, and restaurants. Here, the boat leaves you to make the most of all the experiences the island offers: from the mud baths to trekking up the volcano, from exploring large beaches to shopping in the vibrant center, from geothermal pools to scooter rentals for exploring the inland—you’ll be spoiled for choice.

We will depart from the same port in the late afternoon.
